Shanghai, China
a threshold, a shelter, a stop
A structure remains not as an artifact, but as a framework that continues to hold movement. The existing skeleton is neither erased nor preserved as nostalgia; it becomes the ground against which new spatial paths unfold. Circulation meanders and occasionally breaks free, revealing moments where the past and present coexist rather than compete.

Inside, space tightens. Movement becomes quieter, more internal, shaped less by destination and more by perception. Light filters in fragments, and the body becomes aware of rhythm: passing, pausing, resuming. It begins to operate not as enclosure, but as a sequence of encounters, each moment defined by proximity to structure, material, and time.

Beyond, the gaze extends outward. Architecture no longer directs the body as much as it frames awareness, of landscape, of history, of distance. The built form holds a position between observer and context, allowing what already exists to remain primary. What is new does not dominate; it calibrates, edits, and listens.
